Results of Ultra Masters Throws (& Club) Championships

13 competitors with officials from BC Athletics pose for a group shot on Sept. 24

Since Ultra Throw Club was registered in 2015, its members have been testing their might when we close out each season with our Club Championships.

This year’s meet was held on September 24 at the McLeod Athletic Park, Langley. Although it was a Club Championship, a limited number of other athletes were also permitted to participate. Three participants had come from far-flung areas. George Mathews came from Seattle, Jim Dyer from Quesnel and Andrew Arthur from Calgary. This speaks volumes for the popularity and good standing of the Club.

The 13 participants put up their best performances. Weather conditions were commensurate with record performances. There were three events that were contested by most of the participants which included the Throws Pentathlon, Throws Triathlon, and Super Weight Throw. The participants achieved the following results in their respective events.

Pentathlon or Triathlon:

Andrew Arthur Gold (pentathlon), Gold (super weight)

Alan Coles Gold (triathlon)

Jim Dyer Gold (pentathlon), Silver (super weight)

Paramjit Gill Silver (pent.), Silver (super weight)

With each passing year, our Club goes from strength to strength. We will chalk out our off-season practice to keep various competitions coming up during 2024 in view so that we take off from where we have left now.

Ultra Throw Lifetime Membership Awarded to Club Inspiration

Dave McDonald (right) presents the "Ultra Supporter of the Year" award to Ken Townsend in memory of his wife Gladys.

We’re pleased to announce that Ken Townsend has become an honourary lifetime member of Club Ultra Throw.

Founder of Ultra Throw, Dave McDonald, provides the backstory:

"For those of you who do not know Ken, he is the reason that I started throwing at the age of 55. After coming to grips with never being able to run or play any type of court sports due to having the tibial osteotomy, I saw him throwing discus one day when I was walking the track at Maple Ridge Park. I talked to Ken and took a few throws and smiled saying, 'I could do this.' We became training partners for over 4 years. Long story short, if it wasn't for Ken, I would never have tried throwing and Ultra would not be in existence. “

”I may be the 'founder' but Ken is the 'godfather' of our Ultra Throw Club."

During the Club Championships on Sept. 25 at McLeod Athletic Field in Langley, Ken was also presented with the "Ultra Supporter of the Year" in memory of his wife Gladys.

“For those of you who knew Ken and Gladys, you know that Gladys was there to watch and record almost every throw that he took,” said Dave McDonald. “Bundled up in the rain at times, she took care to keep Ken's stats. I cannot think of anyone who has ever had such a strong supporter. She was amazing.” With this being said, I propose that we put up a perpetual trophy in her honor as "Ultra Supporter of the Year."
